Category: Let's talk
I have informed J that I no longer want to be a community leader. It's not any hassles with other cls--in fact, these folks work better than most other groups I've seen. When I accepted their offer as cl it was for two main reasons: one was selfish (I wanted to see if I could do the job), the second reason was a little more altruistic (I really enjoy the zone and wanted to give something back to it). When I accepted it for a year, I decided I'd give someone else a chance when that year was up. After all, there are a lot of really good applicants out there.
In general, my experiences were pretty much like I thought they might be. Verifying new users--you'd be surprised how many people try to set up a second, third, ... accounts. My question is "why"? in some cases it's because they've been banned, well, be mature and take your punishment. Some, it seems, try to set up second accounts for others who have been banned: same goes, act mature.
Another duty of cls is providing anagrams for the games. It's a tedious task but only takes about five minutes.
Another job for the cls is to mediate between users. This, I found, to be the most difficult part of the job. There are always two sides to every argument, and what one person said another person said or did isn't necessarily, or isn't the whole truth. Much research went into these problems, and to my knowledge all of us did the best we could to resolve these issues.
Frankly, I think if all members acted maturely, there would be little for a cl to do.
As a team, I don't think I ever saw a real disagreement between the group. We occasionally disagreed over what to do concerning a user, but that was rare and and usually we argued it out until one side was prevalent. no one ever (I repeat never) got mad about our decisions.
In short, I enjoyed my year as cl and wish my successors much luck. I thank the cls and administrators that made it possible. I'm sorry I won't get a chance to work with Simon and Sister Dawn, as I am sure they will make excellent community leaders.
Now to the "hello" part of this topic. I plan to take up where I left off a year ago, playing games, writing on the boards, putting Libra Lady down (though that's quite a challenge, she's got a pretty good wit herself). In general, I am planning on having fun again. As a cl you have to kind of watch what you say lest it be taken out of context and provoke a problem. I won't have that responsibility any more. Now I can cuss out the cls and threaten J with my blind lawyer brother. <lol>.
The only thing that's changed is I'll probably keep my quicknotes on more than I did, as a cl I felt it my responsibility to do so, and found that it's a good way to make friends.
Bob
I, for one, am thrilled to have you back posting on the boards. Go ahead and put me down...you'll be sorry. I'll sick my rabid cat on you.
Welcome back to the Boards Bob, and though I never really interacted with you as a cl it will be fun to actually be able to maybe pick on you and not have the fear of the "red button".
Bob, glad to have you back around. I'm sure Becky loves her cat like I love mine, and you will be spared, as we don't want our cats to catch anything from you. *smile*. Look forward to seeing you more.
Lou
Welcome back Bob. And I can just imagine some of the disagreements and arguments between users that had to be cleared up. I agree with what you've said; if people would just act more mature, the CL's workload would probably be a hell of a lot lighter.
welcome back bob, it's nice to see you.
it's ashame you left status as comunity leader, but i can understand your reasoning
hope to se you about soon
lmfao, hey, I always torture the CL's! Simon and Scott in particular, because it's way too much fun! LOL! I never worried about getting ousted for it! hehe, but welcome back to the non CL status if you will.
Oh wow, I had no idea that CL's actually mediate disagreements between users. It's a shame that that's part of the job discription, because people should try and sort things out themselves...oh well, I suppose it doesn't always work that way. And though I don't even know you, it'll be fun to see your posts around the boards!
Hey Bob! Nice to see you around here again. As a CL, you seemed to maintain a low profile. I'm glad to see you back. I, for one, am anxious to see the different posts thrown back and forth between you and Becky again. The two of you crack me up!
well, welcome back to not being a cl Bob. people should be able to sort out problems between themselves, without dragging cl's in to it, but obviously we have some around here who just can't do that.
Hi, Bob. Sorry to see you leaving the CL team just as I'm joining it, but I'm glad you'll be on the boards more these days. You and Becky are quite amusing when you banter.
Lol! Yeah I agree, I was under the impression that "we're not your parents", actually meant just that, but wow...
Bob, apparently we have a reputation to live up to, so get busy...
Besides, even though you're not a CL anymore, I have a disagreement with this really obnoxious zoner named Bob...oh wait a minute...
